What is IB?
Over 4,000 schools worldwide have chosen to offer International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes to their students. The IB programmes are balanced educational programs that focus on helping students flourish intellectually, physically, ethically and emotionally. The programmes are designed to challenge students ages 13 to 19. IB students are encouraged to excel both academically and personally. In addition to their unique academic rigor, IB programmes prioritize their students’ personal development and independence to create well-rounded, successful individuals.
How do IB students benefit?
IB students will benefit from:
- Independent thinking and being encouraged to drive their own learning
- Top-notch educational programmes that guide them to attend some of the highest-ranking universities around the world
- Learning a second language and gaining a deeper sense of cultural awareness
- Developing the ability to engage with others in a rapidly changing and increasingly globalized era
- Increased academic performance and the development of strong social and emotional characteristics
What is the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP)?
Ages 15-18 Years
The IBDP is an academically challenging and balanced programme of education, with final examinations, which has proven to prepare students aged 16 to 19 for success at a university and in life beyond. This unique program is internationally recognized as representing one of the highest standards in university preparatory education. More than 1,000 colleges and universities in North America have recognition policies on how they weigh it in admissions, advanced standing, college credit and scholarships.
The International Baccalaureate® aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programsof international education and rigorous assessment.
These programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
IBDP students must:
- Choose one course from each of five subject groups delivering a breadth of knowledge and understanding in language and literature, individuals and societies, the sciences and mathematics. DP courses can be taken at higher level (HL) or standard level (SL).
- Choose either an arts course from the arts group, or a second course from one of the other subject groups.
- Earn a minimum score of 24 points (out of 45) to earn the Diploma.
IB World Schools share a common philosophy- a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education- that we believe is important for our students.
